Looks like it's been awhile since someone posted info on this subject.... My 2007 LB7 started SMOKING at idle as well. Took it to the Chevy dealer in Scottsdale and they found several injectors "bad" and leaking. However, they said GM (Gov't Motors now) will not cover under warranty "unless all 8 fail concurrently."
I took my truck over to "Strictly Diesel" where they verified the defective injectors. They said they could get them replaced by the local dealer, but guess what... they got the same BS run around from the same local dealer that I did earlier.
Today I contacted a lawyer (..and I really hate lawyers) to address this issue. He said no problem... somewhere between $5k - $15k to sue for restitution if I pay the estimated $5k to replace the injectors. "F" that!!!
Sorry folks, but your just going to have to inhale my exhaust fumes!!! Thought about parking the truck at the dealers service area for awhile and let it idle...
i have a 2006 LBZ and after i put 5" exhaust, downpipe and intercooler pipe and ppe airbox mod mines smokes alittle at idle too, you can only see it at nite though, kinda wierd, but it also did it sometimes when it was stock...............
whats up with that?
I hate dealers, lawyers, and bad injectors I don't know what to tell you but I would contact GM directly.
Thanks for the advice....unfortunately I have contacted GM (govt motors) several times and the response is always the same "all warranty matters must go thru dealers...etc., etc."
I'm planning on trying a different dealer next week as last effort. I hate to say it, but unless they take responsibilty for the repairs to a know and well documented defect, my next truck will be a ford (you have know idea how much that kills me to say)

First do you have a 2007 OR an LB7? The LB7 was from 2001-04.5.
All injectors do not need to be faulty for replacement. Call GM customer service and inquire, remembering you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Im almost sure it would be your injectors. Mine was doing the same thing. it ended up being the injectors. 01-04 lb7 had the injector problem. Good luck

My LBZ also smokes a little at idle. I have noticed it a few times during the day but it's mostly at night when some one is sitting behind me with their lights on. Didn't notice it when the truck was stock.

Ray, thanks for the advice...... believe me I've tried that as I mentioned previously. The truck is a 2004 LB7 with at least 4 bad injectors. GM Customer service (on at least 5 different calls) told me that ALL warranty claims are processed thru the dealers. Whereby the dealer stated the "factory" denied the claim, stating that "all 8 injectors must fail concurrently" before they will cover.
I agree, while you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar, you can also kill more with Raid than with either. I've tried the polite tactic and to no avail..... now it may be time for a far more aggressive option including the pursuit of obama's gov't motors for full and complete restitution for a known defect. Good luck to you or other who may have to deal with GM for warranty issue.
Hopefully your experience will yield better results.
I have an 02 with 130,000 on it. Had the same smoking problem took it to the dealer put all new injectors in it. The warranty is 01-03 7 years or 200,000. Supposedly they are new and improved. Mine got to the point where it was filling the crank full of fuel.
My 06 LBZ emits a very light blue smoke at idle... Only when warm though. Some days it doesn't do it and other times it does. Took it to the dealer where I bought it, said it was fine. Took it for a second opinion at another dealer and they said they were fine to. I made sure they checked the balance and return rates so I have no idea what it is. I've given up on the idea of bad injectors. The mechanic said it's normal to smoke a little so who knows. I'll be going to school next year for Diesel Tech so I can learn more and work on my own s***!!! The hell with dealers!!!
