early abs activation?

So when I am coming to a stop and am almost completely stopped the brake depresses more and my truck moves forward about a foot. I was told this was early abs activation and was due to dirty sensors or bad sensor which need to be replaced. My brother in law who is a mechanic thinks it has to do with a valve in the master cylinder. The abs light is not on, the fuse is good, the brakes feel fine right up until the little surge happens, haven't been able to pull the rotor or hub off yet (don't have tools and seized on pretty good), don't know what to think. Anyone have this problem before or know what to do? Thanks.

My last truck would do that as well, i put it on a lift to check everything over and found one of my steer tires wheel bearing was worn out bad. i would check the sensors, bearings, etc. Driving down the road you couldnt tell, only right before i would come to a complete stop, same symptoms as yours, just another option to check

I had a 1998 gmc k1500 and it did the same thing. My gmc mechanic friend said that the sensor that bolts to the Hub gets corrored and moves the sensor out of position. Just remove sensor, clean up, lube a little with light axle grease and reinstall.

That fixed it and never had a problem again. Ex-wife has that truck, but I got the Duramax

Did the abs light come on duramax rob? Mine isn't, kinda weird if there is a prob with the sensor that the light doesn't come on. Thanks though. Buck, does flushing the system just clean it up, would old fluid cause this problem? Thanks again.

When the pedal dose that sometimes its the hydro-boost. that little bit of extra travel sometimes in turn activates the abs. any truck with over 40,000mi should have it done anway. esp if you tow with it.

Did ya get it figured out yet Apoleian? Mine does the exact same thing, I cleaned the sensors and that didnt help...Ive heard everything from warped rotors to bad REAR brakes??? To hubs/bearings and sensors...Im leaning toward replacing the hubs but havnt got around to it yet.

Haven't got it fixed yet. I called GM about it and it seems there may be an open service notice or something like that. It's not a recall, but they have opened an investigation of sorts, they'll call me when they figured out if they're going to do anything about it. You guys may want to do the same.
