I've had alll three cabs. For a family rig if you are going to have people ride in the back then a CC for sure. EC are cheaper on the resale market do to most not wanting them, and they are harder to get rid of unless you trade them in. EC are noiser with a cross wind. If you are alone like me and just have your dog in the back then the EC is fine. I have an 06 that I built for a DD/race truck. Has a roll cage and the EC allows you to have the entire thing inside the cab without having to take the rear bars out the back window like a single cab. Back seat is out and I built a removable padded bench for the dog with nice storage underneath. Side bars are removable so it works for me. You need a CC however.

Unless the newer EC's are different from my old 2003, the doors are a big consideration also. Unless you have a couple of hyper kids you're trying to confine, the CC wins hands down on the doors alone, much less the extra room. With the EC, someone has to open the front door (and usually get out) to let someone out of the back - giant PITA. We went through this for 6 years, never even considered an EC when we went looking for our '09 CC. Of course, I'm sure the rear CC doors have child safety locks anyway (never looked since I don't have any young kids to haul)...IMHO, go for the Crew Cab!
