dashboard chirp?

I have notice a "chrip" almost like a belt squeak, only very short. It happens every 33 seconds at 70mph. If I change the speed, the time between chrips also changes. Faster speed less time between chirps. It does not do it all of the time, that I can tell. It is very quiet, I can only hear it when the motor is just purring along, and the radio off. It sounds like it is coming from behind the dash board. Anyone have any ideas? My truck is a 2003 with just under 100,000 miles. I have not noticed the chirp affecting anything.

Turn the radio back on!! Just kidding, sounds like it could be speed-o cable related.

I kinda thought that it was speedo related, but I would think the the speedo cable would cause the needle to jump, and wouldn't it be spinning faster than once every 33 seconds?

Hmm thats a strange one. On the duramax the speedo is electric so there are no cables to the trans.

Im racking my brain and I cant think of anything that in the dash board that would come at exact intervals and not go away.

So it comes exactly every 33 seconds at 70? Next time your out try switching to the tripometer and see if it comes at ever so many tenths of mile.

Will do, I was also thinking it may be related to the climate control, but never found anything to put the blame on that.

I have the same thing. turn off your climate control and it should go away. It is your ac compressor cycling on and off.....I am pretty sure of that...at least on my truck it is.

ob_1jr, does yours sound as if it coming throught the dash? If so, that has to be it. I will try using defrost, or the ac to see I if I can replicate it. Thanks, it was really bothering me where that sound was coming from. Now, is there a fix for it??????

When I turn my compressor on it's noisy, like someone kicked the front of my truck, but it does work flawlessly so I don't worry too much,I just chalk it up to being a little loud...

i have the same thing in my 2001 with 77000 on it. It doesnt really bother me but you can hear it, the squeek is louder with the windows down so i know it is in the engine compartment but it sounds like more on the drivers side than the passengers.

yeah, but it is definately louder with the window down like belcha03 said. I thought it was the tranny at first until I shut off my fan and then it went away completely. Is there a fix for it? I don't know, I just live with it. You could try changing the belt, but I have heard that only solves it for a little while. The belt chirp is most common at shutdown. the only other thing I could think is maybe one of the idler wheels going bad, but I wouldn't think it would go away once the climate control was shut off.
