Changing your oil and fuel filter

I have a 2007 classic and would like to save a few dollars by changing the fuel filter and changing the oil myself. I have always changed my own oil etc.. but this is my first diesel. How much would you save over having someone do this work?

Thanks, Tom

Most places will charge around $100 just for an oil and filter change on a diesel.. And if you have them do the fuel filter two it will be closer to $200 to have it done.

I just had the oil changed in my Hemi and it cost me $48. I was also told that the price for a diesel would be $120. Didnt ask what oil or filter they used. It has always been understood that doing your own work is ALWAYS cheaper.

My 1st oil change was at the dealer and it cost me $89.00. I changed my fuel filter for the 1st time myself and it cost me about $25. Search for the thread on fuel filter change. There's a great write up on it and it makes it pretty easy.

I got my oil changed with Mobile 1 Synthetic, oil filter, fuel filter and rotated the tires for $175.

I figured that wasn't that bad of a deal, considering just rotating the tired on these things are a pain in the ass..
Mobile 1 too..

I changed my oil and filter today...found out that the drain plug was rounded. Needed to use a bolt out and an impact wrench to get it out! 1st oil change was done by the dealer...they've must've used an impact gun to tighten the drain plug and rounded it while doing so. Damn...what a bitch!

Change your own stuff....it's really easy. Go to Merchant Automotive :: Duramax and Allison Experts and buy your filters.....they are cheap there. Dealerships are rip offs....

Another reason to change it yourself, it'll be right! Always use a 12-pt socket, a 6-pt will slip, I've found.
