What was GM thinking? A closed loop with a bunch of plastic in the way of the opening. I gave up, turned the truck around and used the trailer hitch.

My old 94 2500 Suburban had way more user friendly hooks on it.
X2. My 88 Chevy K2500 had great tow hooks.

Yes, they are a pain, but mine has held strong, even when I was sure they were gonna break. Hell, my driver side hook even pulled off a hitch off of a Ford, lol. Stupid design, limits your use to a chain unless you have other assessories handy to hook up.

My 89 k5 had great ones too. They never broke......just ripped the frame apart. i like the closed hooks better but i always have lots of shackels to hook up to anything.

My old 90' Chevy had the tow hooks underneath the bumper attached to the frame. Very easy to get to, very strong to. Same for my 79' Chevy. I don't know why they decided to tuck them away. Guess they thought no one uses them anymore.

I just do like the others and keep shackles on my tow straps. They are much easier to deal with.
