Is my 7.5 too heavy for the tires ?

I just got a set of 4 Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/75/16. Someone said these tire are not good for the weight of a diesel. Also what psi are you run max for theses tires is 65 psi the truck calls for 80 psi in the rear

Thanks Fish

Go scale your whole rig, then just the rear on the scale.

My rig weighs over 7,000lbs with over 3,000lbs on the rear axle empty. Do the math and there is over 4,000lbs on those front tires holding up my Duramax.

If you never haul much weight then load range D tires are OK - But it really should have load range E on it. Inflated to 65 psi per the Nitto web site your load range D tires are rated to hold 3000lbs per tire x 2 tires = 6000lbs per axle. So yes they will hold up your Duramax.

The Nitto web site shows you can get that tire in Load range E same size and run 80 psi. That tire is rated at 3415lbs per tire.

Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts

If you get a tire pressure chart from Nitto/your tire dealer you can runs less pressure for a better ride and better wear if the chart allows it per the load.

You will be fine. The stock 245s are rated at 3042 per tire at 80 psi. (found on tirerack.com)
Tire Specs for Bridgestone Duravis M773II

That is assuming that you have a 2500HD and the original tires were 245s. If you have a 3500 SRW, then you are using an under rated tire.

The tire size really doesnt matter on the weight. You truck can fit a

245/65/16
265/75/16
285/75/16 (with torsion bar adjustment and or fender trim)

The only thing that does matter for weight is the load ratting of the tire. The dmax calls for a load range E or 10 ply tire. You can use a load range D or 8 ply as well. But load range C or 6 ply would be pushing it.

The load ratting rates the thickness of the side wall the thicker the side wall the more of a load the truck can handle. If you put 2,000 pounds in the bed of a truck with a 6 ply tire the tires will buldge and the truck will be all over the road with sway. If you put that on a 10 ply the truck will handle better and not sway.

Also if you haul alot with a light tire then the tires will constantly get hot causing the steel belts in the tire to warp or break causing a tire blow out or uneven wear.

i'm with all the above and never i repeat never put a LR C(6PLY)Tire on a diesel pickup....the weight ratings are the main factor when switching sizes..

Id say you'll be fine. I have a taller side wall than you and mine are load range D. I towed a good bit and drove alot on highway without a problem.

with a bigger carrcass tire you need less air to hold the weight so a LR D(8PLY)tire will do if you don't haul heavy(8K to 10K #'s will be the limmit, trailer weight)but if at all possible go with a LR E(10PLY)in the 265's but when you jump to the 285's a LR D is good..
