So the limit cord is built in to the same cord that plugs into the block heater? All I need to do than is hook up a extension cord?

So I guess all I need to do is plug it into a regular extension cord? If I have the GM factory remote start and the truck starts without being plugged in should I worry about plugging it in or should I just let the truck run for 10 mins or so.

Yes, you can just use a regular grounded extension cord for it. I would only worry about plugging it in if the temp is projected to be lower than 10F. The block heater doesn't do a whole lot of stuff for your oil, but I would run synthetic oil in 5w40 if you are worried about it. I have had my truck sit outside at -30F without being plugged in while snowmobiling, but my remote start can be set to start every 3 hours too, which is what I do if I can't plug in. If it gets cold enough for your truck not to start, it will take quite a bit of time being plugged in to even help it start.....even then, the only real fix for it is to get it in a heated environment. Temps in Ohio shouldn't that extreme to have to worry about it that much.

That is the way the clifford is. I would have to look at my owner's manual again, but I know I have to push 2 buttons on the remote for it to work that way. It all depends on the brand remote start you get. Astrostart is set to an interior temp....once it drops below that it starts every 3 hours.

Ahhh... Ok. I was thinking it was the factory starter. From what i can tell I cant get my factory starter to do that... someone told me that there is (or so they think) an after market mod that can be done to the computer so i can change the settings... do you know anything about that?

I have owned my '08 for two weeks now. In the two weeks that I have owned it, the temperture in SW WY hasn't been higher than 20. The first week that I had it, the lows were in the -10 to -15 range. This week has been better with lows around -5. Today when I left for work it was a balmy 4 deg. outside. Long story short, I haven't plugged it in since I've owned it and haven't had any trouble starting it, even when it was -10 when I left for work. I just let it warm up for 5 or 10 minutes before I leave and have had no trouble.

I own a 2007 Sierra 3500 HD and am located about 35 miles north of the New York border in Canada. It was -23C or about -9.5F which is pretty damn cold. The LMM started up just fine after about 4-5 cranks though the voltmeter didn't register +14.6V charging for about five minutes - it showed about 11.5V for the initial post-start period. The truck seems to start w/o being plugged in no matter what the twmperature is. This is amazing as my 2000 Silverado with a 6.5L TD will not start at this temp unless it has been plugged in for at least 4-6 hours.
