your truck should have already came with the block heater. I know with the newer trucks it will trip a CEL if you plug it in and it is not 0 or colder (can't remember the exact temp though).

new cords have a temp switch built into them so they only turn on if it is below 0 deg ferinhieght unless you have an aftermarket cord and/or heater

if this is your first winter with a dmax you will be supriesed at how well they start in the cold
(with good batteries) not like a cummins or the mother of all hard starts the 6.0l ps those things sound like there going to throw a rod through the block when its below 30

Good to know. Guess GM got tired of people coming into the dealerships with the CEL on.

you will be ok. If you plug it in when it isn't cold enought the CEL will be on, but IIRC you won't have any driveability issues. You could always just have a timer.

I am betting you do have one. You have to specifically order a DMAX without it. Look for your plug here: Dmax block heater cord

I would think that it would have been ordered with it since you live in Ohio.

I would hate for someone to take advantage of you and charge you for somthing that is already there.

I finally found it. Do I need a special cord? When should I use the heater?
