cutting the exhaust

im thinking about cutting the end of the tailpipe where it meets with the aluminum extension.it looks like the pipe narrows down at the tip and i think it looks restrictive.its on my 7.5 gmc duramax and i would cut the pipe with 1 inch slots horizontally around the restricted end and bend the pipe outwards to un restrict the end and waaalllllllllaaaa no more restrict

the "nozzle" creates a venturi like effect. any modification to it would result in the design not working. i agree with above-just get a dpf back system for a couple hundred bucks and be done.

a venturi effect for what?just seems like a restriction, now if the tip did not go past the alum extension to tailpipe connection than i would agree but it appears to me that it only creates a restriction and if i cut it and flanged it outwards it would still funnel the exhaust into the extension and create less restriction.this dpf back system that you speak of is only 2 hundred bucks?pretty rare for anything nowdays to be affordable when it comes to these new riggs, you could be right so i wil leave well enuff alone it really has all the power i need was just looking for better milage per gallon

its designed that way so when the dpf is in regeneration mode, the temps coming out of the tip stay manageable. At the nozzle they can run 2000+ degrees. Prior to this design, GM had problems with the test mules melting the plastic bumpers and light lenses of the vehicles parked next to them, not to mention igniting grass, bushes, etc if backed in. perhaps the most fun was the singed leg hair of a passerby. I agree it is a restriction, but this design creates the best balance of hot exhaust and fresh cool air. As far as an aftermarket system goes, perhaps I should restate a [i]few[i] hundred bucks. both mbrp and magnaflow have DPF back systems for a little less than $400. According to them, the systems result in the same or lower EGTs. Hope this helps!

Is this what you meant? We cut mine back the exact distance as the stock pipe. The dimensions are exact.
