input please!

I want to get a tonneau cover for my lmm shortbed. Here is my predicament: I dont want a "roll and lock" type because of the bedspace i will lose. no flip up for the same reason. this leaves me with the soft rollups. what is the most secure of this type cover? I know it will only be enough to keep an honest man out, but id like something that cant be opened without the tailgate down. the closest i have found is the access lorado, but does anyone know of any others? thanks in advance for your input and merry christmas!

As far as I know all the soft roll ups you can open with out the tailgate being down. Your best bet would be a topper or a hard tonneau. As far as soft tonneaus, I have an extang classic platinum that I have had for the past almost 4 years and it has been good. Easy to roll up and put on within a few minutes. I have used it the whole time in alaska, but I go by the out of site, out of mind mentality. I have left stuff in my bed and guess I have been lucky or had a lot of honest people around.

You might want to look at the rigid folding covers. The two I know of are the Bak-Flip and the Fold a Cover. The Bak-Flip folds up against the cab of the truck and works as a shield to protect the rear window when access to the entire bed is needed. The Fold a Cover opens from the front or the back of the bed. I have the Fold a Cover on mine and love it. It keeps people out of the bed of my truck and is weather tight for the most part (If I open it when its wet I get a small amount of water inside the bed).

I've used the Access covers on two trucks, my 89 1500 silverado and my wifes 04 frontier. Both work great, the one on the 89 was installed in 91 and was on the truck in 02 when it was sold. It handled the hot summers in TN and the winters in Minnesota just fine. The newer one on the frontier would lock and if locked could only be opened with the tailgate down. The frontier only lasted a year before my wife traded it for a 1500 silverado but I assume it is still serving the new owner well.

I have had 3 truxedo low pro's they are perfect for what you are looking for. They are good and tight and with the tailgate locked the only way to get in the bed is to cut it.
