2008 GMC 2500HD Frame Popping Noise

My truck has 6500 miles and has started this load popping noise that sounds like a ball joint popping. It happens when pulling out of my garage or parking in a parking space. Please tell me someone knows how to fix this. I took it to the dealer yesterday and they told me that is was the steering stops and they greased them. I knew that wasn't it but anyway. Help please, driving me crazy.

Its either 1 of 2 things. There is another post on here with this and I am having the same problem. Either the intermediate shaft is bad which is somewhat common. If your steering wheel pops or you feel it in the wheel its probably the shaft. I have had mine changed 3 x

Another area is your body mounts for the cab. Mine apparently are bad due to loose bolts also. Dealer says they aint covered by warranty but I say Nay Nay..

Check for bolt tightness bc some trucks were made on Friday at 4:55 pm almost beer oclock and sometimes ppl forget to tighten them bolts up...

Hope this helps

Im not sure but id say just put a good tightening on it or use a impact on a lower setting.

My tech brought my 08 Dually in to go over before a trip I just made this past weekend and found the 2 front rad. support body mounts almost 2 full turns loose and the front cab mounts about 1 turn. The rest where not all that loose. I can't remember what he torqed them to, sorry. There is alot of talk about body mounts failing on another forum. There is a TSB out for it from what I read.

My truck makes the same noise here for a few months. I have checked for hub problems, tie rods being strange, loose sway bar....nothing. I will have to check this out and report back...

Someone else on here did mention having to have either their body bushings or bolts replaced. That would be a good place to start.

Well my mechanic came back to work today, and we put it on the rack and found that the 4 bolts in the crossmember under the oilpan seemed to be loose. We turned them with a lon pul handle and they would make the popping noise. They must have some sort of shoulder lock that make the noise at the bolt head turns past it. Anyway, we pulled them out and reversed the way they were installed, greased them and tightened the crap out of them. I have not heard it again. I hope this fixed it.

Damn I thought I was the only one with this problem. It sounds like something is binding and a nice pop noise.

I also took it to my dealership and they gave the truck back to me and said nothing was wrong. "It must be your drive way..." This happens when I turn my steering wheel all the way to the right.

Can non dealership fix warranty issues??

Yes, a non dealership can fix warranty but you will have to pay for the work done.
GM will not send money to you or the non GM shop.
