Exclamation Attempted Theft Please Read !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recently some Scum Bag tried to steal my truck by punching out the drivers side door lock and unlocking the door disabling the factory alarm. I went to the dealer and they said this was a common way for breakin's. I was told I would need a new door handle, get it painted to match my truck and have it installed. The total cost of $450! They did recommed the Jimmi Jammer, a steel plate that mounts behind the door handle and lock preventing access to the rods that control the lock and door latch, cost $40. Well I decided to repair this myself. I removed the door panel and accessed the door handle and locking mechanism. The only thing that holds the door lock tumbler in the plastic handle is a metal clip the size of your average paper clip! The handle is notched on the back side for the clip to slide into preventing the lock from falling out of the door handle down inside the door. The first photo shows where it used to be, the clip broke the back side of the plastic part around the tumbler. The third photo shows the clip and the broken plastic piece from the handle. The last photo shows whats just inside the door behind the lock that gets punched in exsposing the two rods for the lock and door latch. NICE ENGINEERING! How about a metal handle! Turns out I didn't need a new handle, I used PC7 (JB Weld Type putty) to secure it back into the handle then put a hose clamp around the entire lock securing it to the back side of the door handle. I also used bigger flat washers on the two small bolts that hold the handle into place on the door. The Jimmi Jammer comes with two plates, drivers and passenger side. In my opinion it's 10 times strong and more secure than stock. I would highly recommed this upgrade. Total cost for a DIY mod $50. The saddest things is after doing this repair I know I could easily break into any new Chevy truck in a few minutes.

Noce Idea but the way I see it is above that door handle is a window. If they want to steal it they will find a way in and it is as simple as busting the glass out.

doesn't work that way.

Thieves know that they need to turn the latch to disable VATS.

There is an easy mod that can be done, that will keep the vehicle disabled, and you can forego the jimmy jammers. Just pull the handle position plug.

Just be aware that if you access the vehicle with a key, the alarm will go off till you turn the ignition.

There is a plug that senses the position of of the lock cam, on the lock mechanism itself. It might be green, can't remember.

Just unplug it. This disables the thief's expectation of disabling the alarm, which is what normally happens with the screwdriver method. This way, when a thief uses his screwdriver, and the door is opened, the alarm goes off and the truck ain't going anywhere.

Or even better, my custom tuning allows you to use a keylock switch that I manufacture, to put the car into "bait car" mode (one of 5 programming modes). You wake up and the car is halfway down the street, abandoned.

Good info Killerbee! I will be doing that for sure. I just received the Jimmi Jammers today and will install them shortly. They are good quality. I also got the hood kit and tailgate kit. I will post some photos of the install.

Door Lock Repaired, Jimmi Jammer Installed!

I got the Jimmi Jammer installed and the door lock repaired from the attempted theft. The Jimmi Jammers are good quality. I know it won't prevent them from getting in but at least it will slow them down a bit. I got them from trucksecurity.com for $40 for the two front doors. Here are some photos of the repair with the Jimmi Jammers installed. Does anyone know for sure which wire controls the alarm on the door lock mechanism? The colors are 2-Tan, 1-Green, 1-Purple, 1-Yellow, 1-Grey with a Black stripe. As Killerbee stated above I do not want the key to disable the alarm when unlocked only the remote.
