Tire/wheel combo questions

I have a 2007.5 Silverado 2500HD ext cab 4x4 Z71 LTZ. It came with the 17" wheel delete such that it has the 16x6.5 wheels with 245x75R16 Duraviz. I am considering converting to 265x75R16 BFG AT's to give a little big bigger tire with a higher load rating as I have a slide-in truck camper. My questions are:

1. Should I simply use the stock 16x6.5 wheels even though BFG recommends 7"-8" wheels for these tires? Any issues anticipated?

2. Or should I invest in some new wheels, either 16x7 or 16x8? Most of these wheels have basically zero offset versus quite a bit of offset on the stock wheels. Which will give me the strongest setup?

3. What will I need to do to properly set up the new tires with respect to the tire pressure monitoring system and the speedometer/odometer setting?

4. The effective final drive ratio will be about 6% higher than stock. I'm assuming gas mileage should be about equal?

Thanks for any help/answers. I am really enjoying my new truck so far!

Hello and welcome to the forum!!

I had a 285/75/16 which are bigger than a 265 on my stock wheels and they did fine. So I would say leaving the stock wheels are ok.

For the tire monitering system. I think all it does is check the tire pressure so as long as you take it to actual tire shop or dealership thats delt with them you should be fine.

My 285's killed my gas mileage. However, im looking into a 265 for my next tire because I think it will be close to the fuel mileage I got with the 245's

I am with tow master, 265's on the factory wheels should be no problem at all. The tires will put your rpm's down just slightly, but again the size difference is not that large so you should be fine. If the speedometer mis-calibration really worries you pro-comp makes a module to recalibrate the speedo:Pro Comp Suspension Systems
