Question 07 Rear End Question

I have an 07 2500 4 door. It's my third Duramax. Unlike many of you I have never had any trouble with any of trucks-at all-absolutely nothing and have logged 100,000 plus on each of the earlier trucks.

My problem now with this new truck at 30,000 is that the output seal on the tranny keeps going bad, 3rd time now and the rear end final drive housing leaks gear oil-not just blow by but leaks leaving evidence on the ground wherever it is parked. It is leaking from the round hole where the weld is placed to hold the axle tube into the housing.

My dealer wants to replace the rear end housing. I am a little nervous about this wondering if it will ever be the same. A good friend/ mechanic suggested I just clean it up and epoxy the hole. The rear end is not cracked and it does have the 100,000 mile coverage so I have plenty of time to fix it.

I want to know if anyone out there has had similiar trouble or what your advice is on having everything transferred to a new housing. Am I concerned over nothing?

Thanks-Brad

I would probally let them replace the rear end housing if it were me. I have never heard of any others doing that though!

Is the truck a 4x4? If so you might want to have the transfer case oil pump inspected, there is a clip in there that can break and rub a hole in the case causing all the oil to drain out and then totally trash the case befor you even know it, usually the first sign is the output bearing gone! There is a kit to fix this from hapening but if the case is allready damaged it will need fixxed first!

Transfercase fix kit- Transfer Case Pump Upgrade Kit
