I just got a 2008 chevy duramax crew cab Z71, and I'm thinking of putting a programer and some new wheels and tires on it. I don't want to go too big with wheels, thinking 18's, and I don't really want to put a lift on it because I need it to pull my race trailer, so I was thinking either torion keys or just crnking the torsion bars. Any suggestions for tire sizes, or programers would be appericated.
I really like the wheels from Gear alloy. They have a few and there prices are good to. You can fit a 285 on the truck if you crank the torsion bars up a little and cut the front valance.
For the programmer. PPE is the best hand held programmer out and the edge is a good in truck unit. I havent looked into the DPF but you might want to look into one that has a DPF delete option so you wont get codes.
Heres a pic of my Gear alloy 16 inch wheel

So you would say its just as good to get the added lift in the front with just cranking the torsion bars rather than putting new torsion keys in. I've heard horror stories about people cranking their torsion bars and then it eating their front tires. Thanks for the suggestions though, can't wait to get out of school and start upgrading my truck!
Ya you can crank the torsion bars a little to level the truck and it will be ok. As long as you dont crank them the whole way and to lift the truck and add blocks to the rear. The big thing is you have to get the truck aligned after you raise it. Or you will eat up the tires along with all the other front end parts

I would do the torsion keyways and either front shock extenders or longer front shocks. You could run some 18's on 285/65's and I think it would look pretty slick. I like KMC wheels, they have a lot off good lookin styles and the price is reasonable. Also the PPE programmer is supposed be pretty good on the new LMM engine and it works with the regen mode on the truck, or you can get the race version and strip the whole DPF system and get an aftermarket exhaust.

CHeck out RBP's wheels..they are sick. As for a leveling kit, Im a fan of the Cognito Kit and the ReadyLift kit. Cognito being a lot pricier, and a lot better. Wheel wise, you can run a 33 under the leveling kit so a 20" wheel would look good... don't go any bigger as it will be to much then...Since you are towing, as much as I personally hate the tire, I recomment the TOYO Open Country M/T...its a great tire for looks and for towing.... I just don't like it cuz its stiff (hence why its a towing tire) As for the programmer...HP Tuners is my fav for the d-max, but EFI live is very good as well
Thanks for all the ideas, I really appericate it. It defiently sounds like PPE or the EFI Live is the best way to go with programers. I know I've been ooking at some weld wheels, but I know they are really pricy too. I like the Chevenne and the Velociti series.

Yeah I have a set of 17in Weld Cheyenne rims, that I swap on the truck in winter. I have had them for about 6 years on two different trucks. I was going to get welds when I got my 20's but didn't wanna swing the extra cash for them. In my opinion, they are probably the best wheels out there.

If I go with Welds, thats what I was looking at was the Ceyenne's. I was looking at KMC and the XD Diesels I think would look pretty sick too.
