Service trailer brake system and ABS light on???????

I went camping this last weekend and the entire trip up to the mountains the truck/trailer worked great. Then as I'm getting to the camp spot the trailer brake controller stops working, the DIC says service trailer brake something and the abs light comes on.???? Any Ideas??? I turn the truck off and start it again and it works fine using the brake controller slider to control the trailer brakes but when I hit the brake pedal all the lights start flashing again and the trailer brakes quit. All of the trailer light still work. I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer for something like this.

I would really check all the wire connections to all four of your trailer brakes. The DIC might feel a short or a poor connection to your trailer brakes. Try spraying an electrical cleaner into your male and female wiring harness. I use LPS electric contact cleaner on all my trailer plugs. If not a trailer problem, maybe it is a problem with your built in brake control and a trip to the dealer might be in your future. Best of luck and please let us know what it turns out to be.

I thought that might be it to, the problem is that it now does it even when there isn't a trailer hooked up. It must be something more serious than I thought.

Anyone else know what I might do to diagnose this problem?

Did this happen after you had the lift installed?

If so check you ABS wire connections. If the ABS is not connected right then the complete trailer system will not work as well.

Are you using a tuner and have changed the tire size with the tuner?

The GM trucks don't like to have the tire recaled to 35's or larger some times. Try recaling to 34.50's.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas Nick, I'll check the wires first. I don't think it's due to tire size bucause I'm only running 285's but I have recalibrated for them using efi Live. Do you think that might be it? The truck has had the lift and tires on it since I bought it, and it worked fine before, I just don't know what could have changed unless rain or mud or something might have messed it up some how.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I would open your tune and make sure it took on the latest tuning, and then check the wire for proper connection and or corrosion. When we did the 4-link jobs if the ABS wire was not plugged in all the way the trailer system tripped out because it's all with in each other.

Hope you find it was a easy fix.

Hey Nick thanks for the help. Where do I find that wire?

Check the front ABS plug by your frame in the front wells, next to the brake line. Make sure that all the pins are OK.

Thank you, come to think of it I was doing a little off roading when I think it first happened (twisting things up a bit). That probably is the problem I'll check it out. Thanks again.
