New to Duramax and Chevrolet trucks in general... and a little frustrated already.
Lot hopping two weeks before Turkey Day, I decide I am going to sell my 16 year old Super Duty gasser and pull the trigger on a new Duramax. I was looking at a White CCSB LTZ Sport D-max and we were close on price. I call the biggest dealer in the area (30 minutes away) and they have a white CCSB High Country Duramax listed. We have previously bought two Tahoe's from them for my wife, so he was putting me on this truck at a better price than the LTZ Sport and including their Black Friday deal on it. Only issue- it's not at the dealer yet- even their website listed 'in transit' but had the window sticker online as well as the VIN.
We come to terms, I lock in the deal with a credit card. Dealer says they are expecting the truck by Black Friday. I sell my Ford (quicker than I expected), secure my down payment and loan... bank accepts the VIN and deal sheet from the dealer. Dealer pulls the truck from their website two days later...
Black Friday comes and goes... I call the dealer last Saturday, my sales guy is off, but customer service Rep says truck is at least two weeks out... grrrr.... call back on Monday- my sales guy says he has no way to check on it as it is off the rail and in the hands of the trucking company. He says it should be any day, but they have no control and no way to track it. As of today (Thur), still no truck.
After reading up on here, I reach out to Chevrolet Chat line... they come back stating that the truck is 'near the end of transit' and if I needed more detail, I need to talk to the dealer. Of course I responded asking what that meant and was there an ETA. They respond with 'it means it's close to being delivered. We are only given the current status, I recommend speaking to the Sales Manager'.
I have read stories about everything from allocation issues to damage in transit causing delays... any input from the veteran D-max owners and board members? I am out a truck and have found another High Country ~3 hours away- a different color and for $2k more.... but on the lot. I am impatient, but I sold my truck and secured a loan based on info from the dealer- 3 weeks ago. GM is building 2017 trucks now, why is this 2016 delayed 'in transit'??
Thanks- Rant over- sorry all the detail...
Todd- hopefull soon to be D-Max owner
I like the way you think!! The MSRP was $66k+ and I am in before TTL under $54k... I don't think they would sell a '17 High Country with a new D-Max at that price.
Why did you give the dealer any money at all? I order a new truck every 2 years & don't give my dealer a nickle until it's sitting on their lot. My guess is it got damaged & is getting repaired.
They don't have any money... I have the check from my bank- again I arranged financing with the understanding the truck would be onsite over the holiday. To hold the truck and the 'Black Friday' deal prior to it showing up, they asked for either a small cash down payment (~$250) or credit card- then removed it from their 'sellable inventory'. I have never ordered a new car nor bought one that was not actually on the lot- hence my frustration with the process.
I was up there the other day and looked in thru their service area in an effort to see if there was a white CCSB being worked on and saw nothing, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in the paint booth. They also have several WT model 2500 trucks listed on their website as 'In Transit'...
You may think it's a done deal....but as far as the finance $$ end is concerned, it's not a done deal until they (bank) have paperwork in hand (title) to process.
I'd go for what's in inventory that you can actually put your hand on the steering wheel....if that's what you want. Tell your Sales guy what your plans are...if they want to keep the deal, come up with some 'loaner' transport until they actually have something to sell....on their lot.
:wink2:
Last years model 'In transit', in December? What a joke. nono
I hear you about the deal... until real money has exchanged hands, nothing can't be undone. However- the truck and deal was 'secured' with the credit card... according to them this serves as a cash down payment.
I am conflicted about what direction to go... which is why I posted here- to see if anyone has been successfully thru this process or if I need to walk away. We have history with this dealer and they have worked with us on warranty issues in the past- I have some trust for them- but they are out for themselves... They have no 2500s on the lot at this level (LTZ or HIgh Country) other than a program truck the owner drives with 3,000 miles on it. The on hand inventory I could choose from is dwindling while they wait on the 2017s.
One other note in all this. A dealer in Raleigh, NC had several of these on the lot advertised with a higher than MSRP price. In my discussion with them- they claimed to have added all the High Country items as a dealer installed item and it increased the price. (bed liner, rear window tint, steps, etc). All of this was listed on the window sticker as a factory installed options 'dunno;
Seeing as they are a large GM dealer they may own other dealers in different areas. It's not uncommon for them to sell you a truck that they don't physically have on site or have to ship in from there other dealer. Some independent dealers also work together and buy and sell inventory off of each other. This may be the case, and if anything happens to interrupt the process days turn into weeks.
Here in Canada you see it a lot. My local dealer here is the biggest in western Canada and they have 6 or better dealers in there network. My last new truck I bought through them i ordered here in Regina, whent to work for 2 weeks, and on my week off it was ready for me but had been shipped from there sister dealer in Medicine Hat AB. I ordered a blackout SLT and ended up with a black GFX with more features for less money. Essentially, they sold me a truck they didn't technically have in stock.
I played this game when I ordered my Hellcat, don't think I will ever play it again. Same situation as you the told me my car was 3 weeks out and at the time I was driving my grand national because I sold my f150. Long story short I bought another car from Indiana and had it shipped down here to Houston. I learned my lesson about ordering cars.
I think the key thing to find out is if its shipping from GM (sounds like it is, since you chatted with them) or from another one of their dealers. Given that, GM probably uses 20 different transportation companies to move their inventory, so determining which carrier your truck is on is going to be a challenge.
Your situation stinks. Is there any chance you could call the dealer, explain the situation and see if they can stick a dealer plate on one of their loaners or traded in trucks until your truck comes in? $2k is $2k, if they can give you something to drive I would sit tight.
I work for a GM dealer... I special order tons of cars and trucks for customers and it is true. Once it is with the trucking company it is untrackable via GM's system.. It is a waiting game.. I doubt there is anything wrong.. If you have ever seen the back log of vehicles when they come off of the rail cars you would understand.. you can only put so many cars on a truck at a time.
I have ordered GM's before and it can be slow. Be patient.
On the up side, we are RV'ing at Las Vegas for the Cowboy Christmas/NFR and was looking at a beautiful 2016 dually Duramax, High Country there yesterday. That is one nice truck, worth waiting for. I love that 2 tone leather interior. You got a good price, as they are looking to make room for that new 445hp/910tq, 2017 Duramax.
I have to say though, I drove my brother in laws 2016 2500Dmax, and it does not accelerate as quickly as my 2006 with level one EFI. I was very surprised.
I do like the ease of use of the new exhaust brake system of the new trucks though.
The interior is what sold me on the upgrade- along with the price compared to similar LTZ. My wife's 2016 Tahoe LTZ interior is very similar- Looks great and is easy to make long trips in.
I do appreciate the input- my patience is low- they indicated delivery and knew it was wrong... misleading at best. What doesn't make sense is that its a 2016 that is 'nearing the end of transit' when I believe the last 2016 was manufactured over a month ago. If it is coming from a partner dealer or a subsidiary of the same dealer, why wouldn't they be honest about that? I would be open to discussion on how to get it here sooner.
Minimal information from the dealer or GM leaves me feeling like I may be getting the run around. I don't want to get to the end of this road and find a truck that was not what I wanted (bait & switch)... or no truck at all.
Yes it take time for trucks to show up, we order my wife 13 explorer and we were told a date it was to arrive and it showed up almost over a month later keep getting the run around that it's on it's way should be here any day now, come to find out it got stuck in the shipping yard, they said it had something to do with paperwork, but we finally got or hands on the truck and was worth the wait.
Today- I received an email from Onstar congratulating me on my purchase of a 2016 Silverado and that I now have a new account, an email from Sirius/XM on how to set up my new vehicle and one from GM regarding my warranty and that the Warranty period has begun... the best yet- an email directly from GM requesting that I fill out a survey regarding my purchase of the truck as well as the service and delivery of the dealer... really??? You can't make this stuff up!!
Called the dealer again a few minutes ago and I get the story that it was scheduled to be here over Thanksgiving week and there is nothing they can do about the delivery. It is coming from the factory, not another dealer, so they have no control... Then tells me it is likely backed against a fence with 10 trucks in front of it, but it will be any day now...
I tried turning on the family link which can locate the car on a google type map... but they require activation by hitting the button in the car first.:frown2:
Running errands today, found a GM dealership with a white '16 Denali.... only difference was no trailer tow mirrors. I showed them the deal sheet on the High Country and told them if they could do better, I may be interested in taking it off their hands Monday- if they will add the tow mirrors...
High Country vs Denali...same options, dune interior be High Country saddle.... any high points of one over the other?
Like mentioned before, likely just stuck in a transport backlog. Tough luck man, but as long as the backlog doesn't look like this, you should be seeing your new High Country any day now. :grin2:
As you know, Denali's and High Country's are basically the same truck...it's all in your preference regarding the front end. All my previous trucks were Chevy's. I went back and forth before settling on the Denali vs the High Country. If I remember correctly, I thought the High Country had smooth leather seats and therefore didn't have seat coolers...I could be wrong.
Get them to swap the mirrors and get the Denali. You won't be disappointed. I'm very happy mine. But, you won't be disappointed with the High Country either. You'll just have to wait. I know I couldn't...
This is my first vehicle to have either, so I can't comment on the difference between "cooled" versus "vented." But, I do stand corrected as my truck are "vented." The fan under the seat simply takes the A/C'd cabin air and directs it through the seat bottom and seat back. Either way, it stops the "swamp ass" on those hot summer days. So, yes...it works. But, again, my last truck was an '04 LLY that only had seat heaters so this was a much used option last summer...
Got our Denali after looking at a High Country. Some say the interior has differences but until ya put them side by side i can't remember. We have the Cocoa Dune which was hard to find in the High Country. What made the difference for us is that the first Chevy salesman said maybe i should divorce my wife, (adios Habib!) and the second at another dealership said they don't make a short bed Chevy Crew Cab 2500,(" they are all long beds") his boss agreed and we went next door and got the GMC.
The GMC guy didn't give me much info, but I dropped a lot of info on him in the first few minutes. He didn't need to convince me on anything about the truck as the biggest difference is that it's on the lot.
The interior is the biggest difference between the trucks. I guess the cocoa dune is supposed to be more high end in the Denali, but the saddle in the HC is a little more to my taste.
So now your choice is, the bird in the hand, or the bird in the bush! AND, if you take the bird in the hand, and the bird in the bush comes in tomorrrow, will you be unhappy with your choice?
I know it's frustrating. If that is the truck you WANT I would wait for it. Can you find the same one at another dealer? You have already waited this long. I'd stick it out, that's a lot of money to spend and say, "yea it's ok I guess"
