Cavitation is quite another. I do agree that cavitation will cause vibration but I don't think that the small oil pump is enough to create mechanical failure to anything other then the pump impeller. As long as you don't run an extremely low oil level or extremely high level I highly doubt cavitation is as what we are hearing. Obviously a pump failure due to cavitatiion will lead to a catastophic failure but I don't think this is the case.

These trucks are built the same but there are so many variables that could make my truck louder than yours. Synthetic oil, viscocity, engine break-in, oil fliter construction are just a few things that would have a direct influence on how the oil system will operate and might be the difference between my truck ticking and yours not. They are all built the same but that is where the similarities stop.
I agree. My reference to bearing failure was referring to within the oil pump itself. Of course it's vibration wouldn't cause other bearing failures within the engine. But, I'd be interested to hear from their engineers how an oil pump could pulsate. Never heard of such a thing...how is it an oil pump pulsates? Doesn't the pump spin in direct relation to the engine RPM's?

Great truck... I love mine. Just think GM should look into this before it becomes much bigger issue for the customers with the problem.

I'm wondering if this is the same weird buzzing noise I am getting from my truck. It is a 2010 but I have a weird buzzinf sound that no one has been able to diagnose. I know they updated the oil pumps on the 11s so mine may be different. Any input would help?

The typewriter tick is common on the older motors. A lot of folks claim that rotella brings out the tick and running Mobil delvac 1300 super will get rid of the tick.

Is anyone with the noisy oil pump running Mobil delvac oil? Might try it and see if it cures this problem too...

Running Delvac at the dealers request. Squeal went away but after a couple thousand it has sporadically reappeared.
