The only other choice is to have the dealership buy back the truck which I would have to enitiate. Most likely I would take a loss on the truck going this route.

-GM refuses to acknowledge that their DEF system does NOT work as advertised. Which I did explain to John who once again told me there was nothing that GM could do for me.
-GM does not acknowledge that the oil pump is noisy, but changed their stance to say that it is the transmission whining.
-I also think it is extremely wrong for the dealership to take my truck mudding for a joy ride with out fixing anything.
-John did recommend that I did get a second opinion, this was my 3rd opinion.

Guys, all I wanted was to get my truck fixed. But instead what I got was nothing was wrong, and we could give a crap and btw, you can get the rest of the mudd and grass off of the truck that we put on there while spending your fuel+wear and tear your truck. I understand that sometimes stuff happens when humans build stuff, but it shouldn't be this difficult to get something fixed when its not right.
The Allison transmission whine(for lack of better word) is a noise inherant to the operation of this ransmission and has been mistaken all too often as an oil pump whine. I have to say the DPF regen process will vary from truck to truck, due to the fact that everyone drives differently, some haul some don't , some tow others drive short trips never getting the truck hot enough for long enough, creating more soot load and much more frequent active regen events, due to the fact that parameters are never met for a passive regen. I work the heck out of my truck when i use it and get 450-600 mile regen intervals, i have customers that only drive thier truck in town or short hiway trips for some groceries 15 miles away, these owners have regen intervals at 200-350 miles on average. If your DEF system was not working as designed, you would have fault codes and CEL activation pertaining to a malfuctioning DEF system and more than likely several fault codes relating to a poor performing DEF system, from NOx sensors. Why not wait till you have a problem before assuming you have one, or take to an independant Dmax guru and he can educate you more on the way a duramax/ alisson powertrain acts and sounds, also tell you if you have a problem or not. Undestanding how these new trucks function and sound is key to realizing a percieved problem from an actuall problem. I have delt with many a Dmax owner who thinks a noise is not normal, thinks a failure will result, only to see the truck go hundreds of thousands of miles without a single breakdown.

I have a 2011 lml with 18000 miles, it has been towed to the dealer 5 times. It has failed regen 7 times. When it goes to dealer they scratch there heads for a day and say they are going to call GM tech support. The next day they say they don't know why the the truck will not do a successful regen and hook up tech 2 and force a regen. I than pick up my truck and start the process all over again. So the last time this happen, I was fed up I called GM customer service. So after a run around for 3 days I finally get a answer to my problem,,,, you ready for this ! Quote un quote ( YOU ARE NOT DRIVING YOUR TRUCK CORRECTLY) so the dealer told them I am not letting my truck finish a successful regen by turning the truck off before regen finish's... Well that's bullshit, the last time I was on the thruway in upstate ny and was driving at 70 mph for over 100 miles while truck doing regen, than after 20 min reduced power mode.. Well this has happen 7 times and GM has dropped the ball on this, as the truck has been in the shop 7 times for the same thing without getting repaired, I have no choice but to start Lemmon law.. Really sucks other than that problem I love the truck...

I’m sorry to read about your situation with your truck, the dealership and General Motors. Have you obtained an attorney at this time? I would like to look through your case notes; would you mind sending me a private message with the case number?

Driving does make a big difference on how often you regen. Drive it like you stole it. I've repeated that statement to so many semi drivers with only good outcomes. Idle time is the worst for it. I'm not saying don't warm her up but idling to full temp in not as good of an idea as it seems. I've put 2200 k on mine since I bought it with 20 000 and I have only regen'ed once. I haul heavy and am not scared to give it fuel. Dealers, and i do work for one, unfortunately don't always look outside the box when it comes to a problem with a unit. If there is no problem now or multiple codes they will say no fault found. Get that damn CEL on and drive it right to them with it on. Tell one of them to look at it to confirm and it will hold up better.

Just an update, have put 1300 miles on since it was at the dealer. Driving habits have not changed.

-no more regen smell
-regens went from 400 mile intervals to 550 (2 so far)
-mileage is unchanged.

Not bad gm...for telling me that nothing was done.
