How much for the part and how much for the labor? Any reason why it failed?

Attached - you have until 10/31/15 to complete the form. I would send it registered mail.

The back of my letter has a phone number too 1-800-222-1020

THANK YOU NorskeNY!!!!

Long and short of it, last year I pulled my truck out of winter storage and the CEL light came on. Code was NoX bank 1 sensor. Dealer cleared the code and did nothing. Drove it all year and everything was fine until the TCM (trans control module) completely failed. They replaced it with a new one from Allison. The big question is WHY did it fail?? They don't know. So this year I pulled it out of winter storage and the CEL light came on again. Same code, NoX bank 1. I took it to the dealer and 3 days later I got it back with a new sensor installed. BTW, the dealer was having a hard time getting it to pass the DEF fluid quality test. Less than 100mi later the CEL was back on and this time the DEF light was on. Imagine that, the DEF tank needed to be replaced. Just the tank itself came in at the tune of over $800. Here we are a few months later and the CEL light is back on 300mi from home and a 40' 5th wheel hooked to it. Onstar said it has a code of EGR bypass valve exceeded learning limits. I am ok to drive it home and get it to the dealer at my convenience. Here we are a week later and I took it to the dealer today. They said the EGR bypass valve needs to be replaced. This valve is buried in the back of the engine and is gonna cost me $2300!!!!!The truck has 63,3XX miles on it. They charged me $50 for a diagnostics charge and I drove my truck home. I was absolutely sick. How the hell can a NoX sensor and a DEF tank be covered under5/100k powertrain warranty yet the EGR bypass valve is covered under 5/50k emissions warranty?? The EGR is at least somewhat attached to the engine, The DEF tank ain't even close. I've poking around at my options all evening. Do I do a delete kit and take my chances with the EPA? Is a delete kit even gonna fix this? What else is gonna continue to go wrong with this thing?? So far I've dodged some pretty big repair bills until this.

Then I stumbled on this thread. It jogged my memory enough that I remember getting 2 letters about my truck on emissions crap. I did some digging and found the one relating to the NoX sensor issue. Then I found my get out of jail free, pass go, and collect my $50 back from them that they screwed me out of!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!

I'm gonna get this thing fixed and dump it!!!

1) WHat is an EGR bypass valve and where is it located?

2) Why would this be limited to 2011 trucks when all LMLs use the same EGR system?

1. That's what I'd like to know. Everything I've been seeing it's on the top/side of the engine and looks fairly easy to replace, yet my dealer says it's buried deep down in the engine.

2. Exactly. Unless they did some changes in 2012 on them. My letter is dated October 2014 and says only some 2011 models could be affected.

The EGR Cooler Bypass Valve is located in the very back of the engine compartment toward the passenger side of the turbocharger. It looks similar to the EGR valve. The transmission has to come out or the cab has to come off to replace it.

Under light load conditions, it allows EGR gases to bypass the EGR coolers to prevent carbon buildup in the coolers. All LMLs have them. There must have been a problem with some of them.

The best place for all of this egr junk is right here, headed to the scrap yard.

If any of you want any of the egr parts in the next week or so, let me know. Everything was in good working condition before I ripped it out. You can have it for the cost of shipping, otherwise off to the scrap yard it all goes.

Wow, what an unbelievable amount of parts for pollution control. Your truck must weigh a lot less not to mention probably runs better too.
