Truck pricing factors
Hello everyone. How much you pay for a truck can involve several factors. Being aware of the various items that make up the cost might help in making the best deal.
FWIW, here is my recent experience. I ordered a truck a couple of weeks ago. It looks like this:

MSRP on my truck is $53.260. Invoice is $49,122. A $4138 delta.
The dealer agreed to invoice price but he insisted on $695 "dealer fee". However, he did not charge $918 “GMC advertisement" fee which is considered as part of the dealers "invoice" cost. Now, there is a GMC Business Choice program for business people which gives you a choice of $500 in business truck upgrades or a credit card at Lowe's and a couple of other places. Check into this. You might qualify. So I effectively got the truck for about $195 over invoice. I will get whatever incentives that are available when the truck is delivered in two or so months, probably at least $2K.
MSRP on my truck is $53.260. Invoice is $49,122. A $4138 delta. You have to be careful how the dealer tallies the numbers to arrive at a desired "out the door price." Pickupturcks.com says $50,124 is the smart target price for this truck. I paid $807 under that. I assume that dealer fee and advertisement cost would be on top of their smart price and incentives are not included. Have the dealer print out an invoice on the truck you want. They can do that in advance. It will include the GM advertising fee. If you can get a truck at invoice with no dealer fee or advertising fee and $500 Business Choice credit seems to me that that would be a great deal. Incentives would be on top of that.
I always order my trucks and work from invoice price. To get a price on your truck, go to pickupturcks.com and build the truck. You can print out a build sheet with MSRP and invoice price on it. Folks have different ways of shopping for a truck but here is one way to do it if you have the patience. On your build sheet, state your terms like: you will buy the truck for invoice or below and no dealer fee or GM advertisement fee. State cash or finance, trade or not. Take this to several dealers. Don't begin haggling at this point. Leave your offer and tell them you are going to talk to other dealers. Have them send you an Email with their offer. That is good leverage when talking to other dealers. Once you get an offer you like, work with that dealer to fine tune the deal. I had no trouble with three dealers agreeing to invoice. One agreed no dealer fee but we did not get to the advertisement fee or Business Choice issue. I chose the dealer I bought from because he was close to my target invoice price, near my home and the salesman was genuinely friendly and helpful. I really doubt that I could have gotten another $900 or so off the price, but try anyway.
