Fifth Wheel Towing Milage?

I was curious if those of you pulling a Fifth Wheel could provide some gas mileage examples? We are waiting for some hardware to arrive from Pullrite to move the hitch to the new truck.

I was in Montana yesterday and noticed a parade of Fifth Wheelers on the move from the south.

An example answer might be:
10 miles/gallon, 35 ft Camper, Plains of Kansas.

Thank you for your comments in advance!

I'm in the market for a new 2011 3500 SRW crew and would be interested in the same info. I'd like to compare the figures with that of my Dodge. It would be nice to include your speed as part of the conditions. Thanks! Phillip

A little over 16K lbs combined, from MI to CO and back "2600miles round trip" averaged around 14.5mpg. That was running 65-75mph "depending on the state".

We have a 2011, GMC 3500, crew cab, short box, SRW and we tow a 12,000 lb Montana
fifth wheel. Just came back from spending the winter down in AZ and CA. We ALWAYS
tow at precisely 55 mph, it is the law in CA. We were getting 12 to 13 mpg in the mountains, and 15 on the flat without winds. We have had 24.9 empty at 60 mph.
Please note all these figures are hand calculated not off the DIC and using the Canadian

29ft. Montana (11 grand loaded) average about 12mpg. Add the boat, drops to around 10. About 15 grand total weight. Lots of passes, high altitude stuff. Stopping is more the issue than going. Slow-moe down the backside.

With my 2005 Chevy Silverado 3500 CCLB SRW DA I would get in the range of 9 to 11 mpg pulling a Model 347THT Montana Mountaineer (shipping weight 10,660 lbs) doing 65 mph (mileage varies with wind and grade of hills/mountains). If I slow down to 55 I get up to 12.5 mpg. I just purchased a 2011 Chevy Silverado 3500 CCLB SRW DA and will be heading to Myrtle Beach next month - this will give me a chance to see if the fuel mileage is better or worse.

Did a 12K mile left coast to east coast and back the loooong way, a lot of north and south side trips, last year. I averaged 11.7 pulling an over 9K# 5th wheel plus 1K# in the bed. Worst strech I saw was 9.6mpg pulling against a near full-on headwind in Kansas (tore one of my wind deflectors in half) and best was 16.5 on flat with a tail wind at 65mph. I used DIC numbers since my calc check is within 3% of the DIC last time I checked......
