Had a round with the dealer this morning.

Just to give everyone a little background on the situation. I have a 2011 Duramax and its an American Luxury Coach truck. I bought it like it sits. Ever since I bought it the speedometer had been off about 5mph because of the tires of course. So this week I had to take it in because the paint was bubbling up and chipping on the fender flares. So they take care of that and I ask about the speedometer and of course they can't calibrate it but they were supposed to call ALC and ask them about it because I feel if I bought the truck lifted that the speedometer should also be correct. I call ALC myself and they tell me that they have the hypertext calibrator to correct the problem it's not the inline model but its the one that plugs into the OBD II port and they tell me that all my dealer has to do is send them something in writing that my speedometer is off and they would send them the hypertech and the dealer could install it for me no cost. So the dealer calls this morning to tell me that my fender flares were in and I asked if they checked into things about the speedometer and they tell me there isn't anything they can do to fix it and I said I called ALC myself and told them what ALC told me they had to do. They said ill mention it to the service manager and see what we can do. So about an hour later they call me back and tell me that the service manager is aware of the hypertech but he says that any kind of aftermarket calibrator that they put on or I put on will void my warranty. I said I don't think that's the case and I told this person thanks for checking into it and getting back to me about it. Needless to say I was pissed all I wanna do is correct the speedometer. So I called ALC back and told them what the service manager said and they told me this is the first time we have heard anything like this and we put these on trucks all the time. So by the end of the conversation ALC is going to send me the Hypertech speedometer calibrator and I'm going to install it and fix the speedometer myself which I can do. Bottom line is I didn't have to pay for it to correct the problem. Sorry for the long post I've been a little ticked off this morning.

First of all, inform the service manager that you are posting this on a national (international) forum. If he takes that ridiculous position you will write about it exactly and post accordingly.
Next: dump this dealership. Tell all of us who it is and the membership here should make note of dealerships who will not work with us, I mean why should we support folks who do not support us?
Next, print and share my response with the general manager, then the service manager. Be sure to note that this guy doing the writing has a thread here with a third of a million views and he is on your side.
Next contact me and I'll suggest dealerships who are reasonable and not corporate boys.
Finally, mount the Hypertech in-line calibrator to your harness just behind the instrument cluster. It's a simple 30 min project, fixes your problem and works with aftermarket programmers as well
Get it done!

Thanks for the reply just to correct something ALC isn't putting on the Hypertech inline calibrators which is all I wanted to correct the problem instead they have the hypertech speedometer calibrator that you plug into the OBDII port. Only reason why I deal with this dealer is because they are the ones that have agreed to warranty the truck since it is an ALC conversion. Like I say though ill use this calibrator and the first time I have to take the truck in for something and they try to say the hypertech is what caused it and are going to void my warranty I will not be a very pleasant person to deal with. I would love to have a programmer on my truck and stuff but I want to keep my warranty for now. All I want to do is fix my speedometer so it will be correct

The speedo module plugs into the instrument cluster. Not pre computer, after the computer. I believe it is electronically invisible. I use it myself.
Another point: with something plugged into the OBD port, I don't believe the on board diagnostics will transmit data to GM, so their cool monthly report will be missing all applicable information.
It was that way on my 2008 Denali, and my Hummer H2

Right you are correct hypertech has 2 different models the one that plugs in behind the dash and they have another one that plugs into the OBDII port and if you choose later on you can purchase a download or something and you can use the one that plugs into the OBDII port as a full max energy programmer if you choose to later on. Bottom line is as long as I use it to adjust the speedometer it will be hard to prove that it caused any other problems that could arise later on should anything major happen to it.

Blackz92 Thanks for posting this, we sell these units to alot of dealerships. The inline piece your talking about, if you had to take the truck in for service you could just remove. You shouldnt have any problems with warranty, it isnt changing the tuning aspects of the vehicle only correcting something they should be able to do.

I realize this ALC isn't sending me the inline piece they are sending me the unit that plugs into the OBDII port which pretty much does the same thing all I want to do is correct the speedometer and ALC is going to send me a Hypertech at no cost to me.

That is true but it is aggravating I think the service manager at the dealership thinks I'm stupid and don't know anything about what I'm talking about
