Didn't consider Viper or any other system by Directed aftermarket "crap" pretty reliable company and systems. Worked great on my other truck (Gasser). Dont know if it's the Diesel engine, or GM's ECM, but i'm sure it's fixable. Thinking it was the installer.

Take it back to the installer and demand them to fix it.

OEM remote start not working

The remote start on my '12 stopped working and the dealer is yet to find the cause after two tries. This next week they get to keep the vehicle for a full day to troubleshoot.

Has anyone here had any experience with this, likely causes etc?

2012 GMC SLE Crewcab 4x4 Duramax. Stock truck except toolbox, hardwired bacon detector and cell booster.

Previous was a 2003 GMC SLT Crew 4x4 Duramax that I owned since new and drove for 275,000km or 170,000 miles. Only mods to this were Edge and Pacbrake (exhaust brake).

2008 Cougar 5th wheel, 28'.

I havn't had this isuue. But as an FYI I didn't receive the 2nd remote(remote start) with my 2011. I did a little research and forund 2 additional remotes on ebay for $31. I called a few locksmiths and found one that would come to my house and program both for $50. The dealer wanted $180 for 1 remote and programming.

Do you have to have a current Onstar subscription for it to work, monthly fees?

My Onstar is still on so not sure if it works without it activated. Maybe someone else could chime in and help you out .

I've had my 2011 LML since I bought it new a year ago last Halloween.

I bought a couple of remote start key fobs off E-Bay. The dealer wanted IIRC $85 to reprogram the truck. So total cost was about $150ish.

Yea, the range isn't very far. But if I have trouble with it, but since it's an OEM unit, the dealer will fix it under the 3/36k warranty. Can't say that for an aftermarket remote starter unit.

The module has no interference with starting with the key in these trucks. Even of the remote start system completely freaks out te key will still start the truck. If you have the right installer it is not an issue of "when" it will have a problem. I install at least 5 remote start systems per day on average and I just looked to verify. In the last 18 months I have had a total of 2 come back for a service issue and neither had any problem starting it was just features programming. The systems are as good as the installer and it sounds like you have been going to the wrong ones. That's not to say I haven't seen a problem with a system but it is always replaced before I let it out of my shop.
