I was at my local Home Depot a couple of weeks ago and wanted to get a duplicate key made to hide underneath the truck incase I got locked out. The person working the keying maching there told me that these new trucks require a special blank key (something to do with an embedded chip) that costs ~$75 dollars. I said no thanks... Can anyone confirm this is infact the case on these new trucks if you want to get duplicate key made?
Can't you have a key made without the transponder and it will work on the doors but not the ignition? Just taking a shot in the dark, thought I heard that somewhere...
i have an 11 Duramax, had the same problem, theres a chip in the key for the ignition. Got one made at a Fleet Farm in MN, it'll just unlock the door, thats all i wanted it for anyway. Just find the right guy to do it
