Trust me - you guys want to stay far, far away from this type of transmission as well as Torotrak themselves. I have worked with them for years trying to get their concept to work in a lawn tractor, and after five years, it still does not work at all. We were stuck in some sort of binding agreement I think to where we had to build so many or else we would have to pay a huge penalty. We ended up putting maybe 2,000 or so units out into the marketplace to appease them and we have nothing but poor feedback on them. Most have blown up or stopped working and all units had complaints of a high pitched whine and uncontrollable movements. There were plans to make this available in more units, but that has been scratched since this design just plain doesn't work. I feel sorry for those that spent their hard earned money on those tractors. None of our test units even came close to meeting our test criteria. This was a pet project that one of our semi-retired exec's forced on our company, and he and his brother are the ones that keep the faith. The rest of the company knows this is junk and it is depressing to see any more money wasted on it. The funny part was that we sold each unit at a huge loss... this thing is far more expensive than current transmissions in the marketplace. Just my $.02 on the subject as the project has sucked the life right out of my company. This is the exact reason we had to close an assembly plant down, take a pay cut, and lose out on a bonus. |
