well I can maybe help you a little bit. The a/c is most likley R12. You can buy a kit to convert it to 134a. That way its alot cheaper to recharge it. Mine's been converted so it was cheap to recharge it. Listen and see if the compressor is turning on too, if its low it shoudn't even turn on.

the 4wd... In order to shift into low, you have to do the following. Be in gear, let off the brake so your moving at idle speed, then shift the tranny to neutral, and shove it hard into 4LO while your moving, then shift tranny back to "D". To shif out its the same thing, idle speed, shift tranny to neutral, and yank hard out of 4LO while your still moving, then shift tranny back to "D". My truck I have to really shove it to get it to go. It's always been that way. 4HI can be shifted in and out on the fly, whenever you want. Just let off the gas and shift in to 4HI, let off gas and shift out of 4HI. Wouldn't use it on dry pavement though.

The 6.2L motor is a GM motor. It was used before and at the same time as the 6.5L. I know that banks used to (long time ago) make turbo kits for 6.2's. You may be able to steal the hardware from a 6.5L turbo, but I'm not very sure.

And yes the mouse nest could make it smoke, and it is a diesel, so it will smoke black a little, thats normal.
