I got a really nice deal on this 93 4x4 6.2L auto, but could use some advice, help. can I put on a turbo and where do you get them? junk yard or pro shop?
also I doesn't want to go into 4L. it goes between 2H and 4H but the shifter won't even go past neutral.
also I'm assuming the A/C is R12 or R22. (not sure) it is not cold.
I was told buy the Govt agency that sold it that it smoked but I cannot see any smoke at all. I did find a mouse nest in the air cleaner compartment though. could that do that?
I'm not sure if its a GM, Cummins, or Duramax, anyone know?
I also still need 2 16" 6 lug 4x4 wheels if anyone has some for sale. they are called 1618's off an 88-91 GMC I've been told. see my other post and pic. thanks

well I can maybe help you a little bit. The a/c is most likley R12. You can buy a kit to convert it to 134a. That way its alot cheaper to recharge it. Mine's been converted so it was cheap to recharge it. Listen and see if the compressor is turning on too, if its low it shoudn't even turn on.
the 4wd... In order to shift into low, you have to do the following. Be in gear, let off the brake so your moving at idle speed, then shift the tranny to neutral, and shove it hard into 4LO while your moving, then shift tranny back to "D". To shif out its the same thing, idle speed, shift tranny to neutral, and yank hard out of 4LO while your still moving, then shift tranny back to "D". My truck I have to really shove it to get it to go. It's always been that way. 4HI can be shifted in and out on the fly, whenever you want. Just let off the gas and shift in to 4HI, let off gas and shift out of 4HI. Wouldn't use it on dry pavement though.
The 6.2L motor is a GM motor. It was used before and at the same time as the 6.5L. I know that banks used to (long time ago) make turbo kits for 6.2's. You may be able to steal the hardware from a 6.5L turbo, but I'm not very sure.
And yes the mouse nest could make it smoke, and it is a diesel, so it will smoke black a little, thats normal.
I was gonna say word for word what he said! ^^^^^^
If you find out that a 6.5 turbo would work give me a yell! I have a complete motor (with a broken crank) with turbo for sale!

thanks Gr8shot. I tried the 4L in neutral and it worked! wow. Iwas on asphalt backing up and heard a loud bang so I took it out again. I'll check on the turbo fit and get back to you Tow Master, thanks. I found 2 4x4 Alum. 16" rims I was after so it will loog good when I get some new rubber on front. its cleaning up nice. radio and A/C not working but it sure sounds sweet.

Glad I could help! Not sure what the band would be, but I've put close to 300k on my 92 gasser, and haven't had a single problem with my t-case, so hopefully yours is as good for you!! The a/c can be a crapshoot though... If you can find some R12, you can give it a charge and at least see if the compressor will cycle on. With that few miles i'm suprised its not workin. I'd do the 134a conversion though. I also had a $7 connector fail that left my a/c not working for a year. So its tough to say whats keepin it from workin.
The radio in my 92 doesn't work either. I found a used radio, brainbox and tape player at a swap meet. Swapped everything out and it works about 30% of the time. I'm about ready to give up on the whole setup and go to Wal-Mart and get a cheap CD player. (I'm not usually a Wal-Mart shopper, but it's just a work truck). Good luck with you radio.

If you go they have the install kit that puts the radio in the hole where the tape player is or just a open hole! I think they have it in black for $10.00? I went to circuit city and bought a tan one to match the interior in my one truck for $25.

BBail2X2 might try when shifting into 4lo to put transmission in neutral then shift transfer case into neutral, then put transfer case into 4low and then shift transmission into gear. Usually works with less bang to transfer case might hear alittle transfer case gear meshing when happens bu usually no bang. to transfer back go back in neutral in transmission to shift back to neutral or 4hi or low in transfer case ( to it when not moving or very slow moving) Just my .02 to save your tranfer case.
