I may be getting a 6.2 longblock... What is required to make it a runnable engine?

I might be getting a four bolt main longblock 6.2 diesel, what components do I need to make the motor a turn key engine, other than cooling gear and such, I'm talking like intakes and water pumps and stuff?

Do you mean you want to run it in the truck or on a engine stand?

Well, I know I'm going to need a radiator and stuff, but I'm wondering what you need to get, to make it ready to drop in the truck, hook it up, and run it.

That's a diff question. If you want a good, reliable tow rig, then do the 6.2[OH!!they are not fast, but they are mileage kings in stock form]Head studs are top on the list for sure! What condition is the IP and injectors in?That can get pricey,QUICK too.The 6.2 has a unique priming system on it,so if you have trouble starting,PM me and I'll break it down to ya.I'd make sure it doesn't cost more than it's worth to you.If this model has a PMD,also be ready to isolate that if you want IP to live longer than 40-50k!!What are your plans for truck,?that would be helpful info....

What motor does the truck have in it now?

If it doesnt have a diesel or 6.2 in it already you might need a wireing harness and computer to run the injectors. Also a inline lift pump. Trans that will bolt up and correct motor mounts.

The truck has a 2.2L four cylinder gas.
I'm wondering what I need to take a long block motor, and turn it into a "crate engine".
So I'd need the valve covers, oil pump, oil pan, intake manifold, pullies, etc..
I'm looking for a list of components I'd need..

I'm going to see how much stuff the guy has, I might be able to get more than just the long block from him.
Its a 1982 6.2, mechanical, 4 bolt main.

As far as I know, I can use 350 gas motor mount kit.

wow, unless that "guy" is going to be giving you the parts, I'd say ditch it and just get a crate gas motor. It'll probably cost you as much in parts and PITA moments to get that diesel up and running. And it's definently not going to RUN lol, more like a slow walk!! If its a tow rig, then maybe it'd be worth it, but it sounds like a headache already!!!

UNLESS... you can find a junk'd 6.2 somewhere and pull parts from it. Then it's possible to do it for halfway cheap.

Ya I honestly was thinking the same thing as gr8shot said. It would be alot easiar and you can buy must fo the tricky stuff you need.

However, it would be cool to do the 6.2
