Ya I agree with daddysLBZ. There honestly is no real sensor, wires or switch that turn it on. Just a internal clutch. The clutch's are known to go bad especially in a high mileage truck like yours. You would want to check that and might want to look into getting a aftermarket electric fan instaled as well.
