Starter Problem

It's a 2005 LLY. It doesn't do it all of the time maybe once every couple of days. The starter will spin but not engage to crank the engine over. I put a new starter on and checked battery connections and tested batteries. It sounds like the teeth are trying to mesh but they are not. When it does it I just shut the key off and try it again and it always works fine.
Any help would be great.

I would try cleaning the connections at the solenoid to make sure they are clean and able to pass a full current, if they are not, then they may not be allowing the teeth to get enough juice to engage fully.....

sounds like maybe youl need to shim it. The new starter comes with shims, did you notice shims when you took the old starter out?

It didn't have any shims with it. All of the connections are clean. I just put the new starter on last night.

Is it a schucks or autozone brand. They are ALWAYS junk.

No shims in a Duramax starter. Unless it gets to the point that it does it all the time, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mine has done it on occasion too.

i just had a new starter put in a few weeks ago and now i'm having the same problem. i brought it to the shop and they're telling me that the new starter isn't messhing with a gear in the transmission and that they have to replace that gear. it's coasting me a 1000 bucks to get this done.

The same garage replaced the starter and thats when the issues began. i was having problems starting it before but that turned out to be the fuel filter so the new starter wasn't even needed.

i feel like i'm getting kinda screwed over by the garage, any thoughts or ideas?
