engine vibration

About a week ago on my '04 duramax I started to get a vibration from the motor. The vibration happens from idle to redline. You can't hear it outside the truck, but sitting inside you notice everything is vibrating. The low tone it makes i thought it was an exhaust leak, but I couldn't find one and the motormounts look ok.

I have a read a couple other posts that say it is the torque converter. Is their a vibration damper or something similar on the duramax because I have a 90 olds with the 3.8 and it does the same thing when the damper goes? Need some help though because i dont want to drive the truck and wreck it if the problem is serious.

Nobody has even a clue as to what is causing the vibration?

Is the truck running good other than the vibration. No codes or check engine light? Is there any unusual smoke or smell? Excessive rattling? Fill out your signature so we know what other Mods you have.

the duramax does have a harmonic balancer. I guess it could be going, but without actually hearing or feeling it, it is hard to tell.

I have not checked for codes because I figured there wouldn't be any due to the fact there is no check engine light. It is cold here in ND so as for the smoke color, it looks like the normal exhaust cloud. I don't know if I would call it a rattle, more like a low sounding vibration. If an injector were to be going, would if make vibrations like that? The truck sounds like it is running normal on the outside but when sitting in it you can really hear/feel the vibration. It does not go away from idle to redline, hot or cold.

Speaking of the exhaust clouding during the cold... My diesel never has has a cloud out of the exhaust even at 20 degree temps outside. My gas burner I traded in always clouded while cold outside. So I asked around why this is different. I was told that diesels won't cloud because unlike a gas burners, diesels don't have spark plugs therfore no igniting combusting going on that diesels run from very high compression.

Now my point is should there be cloud coming out from your exhaust? If someone can correct me, please do so because I've only had my truck about a month now and still learning something new everyday about what to expect from diesels.

Good luck on your problem and hope its a minor fix!

Well, by rights there should be a cloud from any vehicle due to the fact it is cold outside...0F but maybe not. I have not driven the pickup for a couple days due to the fact I do not know what is wrong. Say it were an injector or two, wouldnt their be a loss in power and/or a miss?

Well, upon having to drive the truck today, the engine has a rattle noise from about 1900-2000rpm and above... could that be an injector and if so, how can i determine which injector it is?
