P0401 code, lost power ever since

I am knew to the forum and i was hoping you guys could help me out. I have a 06 lbz with the bully dog triple dog and was pulling my camper back home when my engine light came on. I did not have my out look monitor because it had a glitch in the screen and had to be sent back to bully dog(which took for ever) I did not realize the program was set on extreme. The tail pipe started rattling and blowing black smoke when i gave it throttle. When i got home i cleared the p0409 code and ever since the truck is lacking the power it once had. The engine light has not come on again but even my wife can tell the diffrence when she rides in it. What should i do, the truck has 39,000 miles on it. What should i check first?

Check your egr conections or replace it.

Your title says 401 and in your typing it says 409. Both deal with the egr valve!

Sorry for the typo, it is the po401 code. Could the egr valve be the cause of the power loss? The engine light has not come on again but ever since it just has not had that umph that it used to have when you eased into the pedal

That code should not cause any power loss. Most of us get it with a aftermarket turbo back exhaust.

You might check and see if you have a lose turbo boot.

I Checked the turbo boots and every thing was fine as far as i could tell. I hope my egts did not get to high and damage my turbo.

Put it back to stock and see if you have smoke and power loss. Most likely the tuner not playing nice.

Also as stated check boost. You may have a boost leak that is not noticeable with the eye. Is the out look monitor you're only gauges?

Yes the outlook monitor is all i have for gauges. It only did the smoking and rattling noise the one time and that was when i was pulling my camper. That was about three weeks ago but the power has been slack ever since. Since then i put the afe stage II intake hoping that would bring it back to life and that did nothing. I will try to unhook the programer and see what happens. I just hope i did not get the egts to high and damage the turbo.

Try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner. Sometimes there will be a mpg and power loss from a dirty MAF. Cleaner is only 5.00 from a autoparts store and is a easy thing to do.

Worth a try. Don't think it the 0401 is your problem either, sound like something else.
