2002 Gmc Duramax Starting problems

I have always wanted a 2500 hd so i finally get one a month ago. A week later the glow plugs and glow plug controoler go out. Now when i start the truck it will not run over thirty miles an hour and my oil pressure runs up to around 80. Then after it runs awhile runs like a top i am new to diesels but is this common to have to let them warm up that long and my oil pressure always runs around 60 when driving and 40 when just sitin. I have no experience working on diesels but im starting to think with this truck i am going to get some practice. Thanks for any input

Welcome to the forum and don't forget to fill out your signature.

Factory minimum spec on the oil pressure is 37 psi @ 1800 nominal operating temp(between 180 and 210F).
My truck runs 120 psi cold and 45 psi warm, my buddies truck runs around 60 normal.

GM has a bulletin on the glow plugs for the LB7 motor, but not sure if it covers the control module. Perhaps someone else can supply the details on the bulletin.

Not sure about the 30 mph limit when you start it, as you read a lot of these threads, you will see one common denominator, the first thing you change when there is a problem is the fuel filter. Use only a Racor/ ac delco filter. Racor mfg the A/C delco as well as the AFE and others. Stay away from wix or any other filter with a plastic / glass fiber housing, just a word from the wise. The new WIX has a faulty seal that allows unfiltered fuel past the seal when the filter becomes restricted and this has caused problems with the FPR, CP3 and injectors. The Wix also has about half the filtering area as the Racor. The Racor seal is a positive compression seal and when the fuel filter gets restricted , the engine looses power which is a signal that the filter needs changing. Several of the duramax forum vendors carry the Racor for a decent price and you can also check B-Line Supply in Tx, they have the best pricing.

Good luck with your new truck.

Thanks for the advice i will try that and seem if it helps my buddie has a 2005 duramax and he seems to think i just need to let it warm up for a bit before i take off. I did notice since its cooled off the wait to start has been pop in up so maybe a new fuel filter and leting it warm up will solve my problem
