Long story short, I have to see if the original installation got it twisted just a hair so as to twist the filter towards the head. It wouldn't take much of a twist to move the end of the 8-9" filter over just a enough to remove the clearance.
BUT, that does pose another possibility vs. dirty fuel that just dawned on me - the filter may have loosed just enough to sucked some air and lost its prime. I may have been able to simply loosen the screw and verified the prime was still pushing fuel. If it hadn't, that would have answered the question. And, it'll be one of the first things I check the next time, IF it happens again. |
