Red face Bottom End Bearings

I have trucked for over 30 years and I used to work on the trucks and I have seen what happens to the bottom end bearings after the diesel fuel has been run in them for any length of time. You end up putting a rod through the side of the block. I hate to tell you that because I'm now disabled myself and know what it's like to be without my truck I just had GM do the Head Gaskets under warranty. It took them almost a month to do it. They had me chasing after them to cover the job as my warranty was over by 30 miles. I would get a hold of GM and tell them what the problem is and that your disabled it might carry some weight. Just keep after them and try a couple of different dealerships like the other person said I had to go to two dealerships to get my job covered. The problem is the more you drive it the faster your going to tear out your bearings. Good luck. PS tell them to check for recalls on the engine parts. Bye for now. Ric

Sorry to hear that your dealer is behaving like that towards you.

My truck is 500km over its engine warranty now but last week, whilst it was 500km under, I booked it in to have the block heater and chord replaced as it had blown up and was leaking coolant. I asked him to have a look at the engine as a whole and see if there was anything that should be done before the warranty expired. He said 'no problem, I'll get the guys to do a full test'.

He calls me on Thursday to tell me that my truck wont be ready until Friday -a bit of a pain because I had borrowed one for the day- but I was cool with it and said it was no problem. Friday rolls around and he calls me back at lunchtime to say the block heater is in and it is ready. He then says that the test results were just fine except for the fact that all my injectors are 'weak'.

Not broken... just 'weak'.

This was my worst nightmare as he was doing the block heater under warranty even though it had officially expired. I had to sign a paper acknowledging it was a goodwill job and not a requirement. So, having recently replaced the entire front end -wheel bearings, four ball joints and tie rods- to the tune of $2 K, I baulked at the thought of another $4 -5 K winging its way from my wallet in the near future.

The next thing he said amazed me.

'So, would you like us to go ahead and replace those on the same work order?'

'Huh?', I said.

'Whilst your still protected and for the same $100 deductible that you've allready paid as per the terms of the engine warranty. I'll replace them on the same work order', he explained

Then he says, 'But you won't be able to get your truck back until Monday. Is that going to work for you?'

I couldn't believe that he was willing to do this on a technically-expired engine warranty for injectors that he classed as simply weak and not yet broken. He can keep it until Christmas if he's going to do that job for free for me.

Whilst this post doesn't even come close to helping you with your problem I hope you look for a different dealer who will treat you fairly. If you find one with a fraction of the principles mine has then hopefully he will see you right and do the things that need done.

Good luck.

Jim, where in TX are you? You need a different dealer. Yours is screwing you over, plain and simple.
I took mine to Peltier Chevrolet in Tyler and they did all 8 under the 200k mile warranty. Four of mine failed, and four were still good, but they said if two or more failed then the warranty covered them all.
Get a copy of the warranty extension and details and take it to the dealer. You can find the info online by searching for duramax injector warranty.
