Hello and welcome to the forum!!!

Well unfortunatly all the Duramax's are known for smoking the transmissions when you add over 90HP of power. What happens is thereis so mutch torque when the truck shifts from 3-4 and 4-5 it slips the clutches and burns them causingthe transmission to go into limp mode. The bad part is when you do it once the damage is already done.

Your transmission needs overhauled and get some aftermarket parts especially a torque converter. Fo most of the upgrades it costs you about $2500-3000 installed. If you dont have the $$ your better to lower the edge settings to #1 or 2 untill you can do the trans.

It could also be a fuel filter. Did it just loose power and have a 2000 rpm rev limiter or did it lock in 3rd gear? Did it throw a code? If you had the rev limiter then change the fuel filer and try that, but like Tow Master said keep it under 90HP and watch the 4-5 shift.
