Trans/engine fan sensor?

I own a 2002 LB7 with Allison Trans nestled in a 2500HD Chevy with 240K miles on it. I was pulling my 10k travel trailer last weekend in 95deg heat when the Trans started running hot around 240-250 deg. The fan that used to kick in when the trans warmed just over 200 deg and felt like somone threw out a boat anchor never kicked on? Is there a sensor or fuse that could be causing the fan to not lock up when the trans starts warming past 220deg? or is the trans just getting tired?

Welcome to the forum!

Ya I agree with daddysLBZ. There honestly is no real sensor, wires or switch that turn it on. Just a internal clutch. The clutch's are known to go bad especially in a high mileage truck like yours. You would want to check that and might want to look into getting a aftermarket electric fan instaled as well.

Probably need a new fan clutch. With that amount of miles on it that would be my first guess.

Thanks for the info. Is anyone using an electric fan on their truck now and should I run both or just one?

If I were you I'd just get an electric fan that fits on your tranny cooler. Get one with a switch that'll turn it on when your tranny gets to like 200* or so. I don't think you need anymore fan for the radiator, probably just a new fan clutch.
