| MAF, P0101 code after K&N filter instal Has anyone had a problem with the MAF sensor out of range after installation of any aftermarket air cleaner and is there a fix for the sensor. The sensor is not bad it’s doing what it is supposed to do and the system is alerting me by way of check engine light. I have heard of oil getting on the sensor from the K&N filter so I cleaned the sensor even though it was not dirty and reset the code. It reappeared after two start ups, so I have reinstalled the OEM air cleaner cleaned the sensor and reset the code again. I have driven it only once since but I will give it three days to be sure. I haven’t been able to find any info on line about possible solutions to the problem. Just the recognition of the issue with aftermarket filters. I would like to use the filter but don't want a check engine light staring me in the face all day. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks |

| I haven't heard of a drop-in filter causing that problem, just the FIPK causing it since it relocates your MAF sensor and the flow of air is higher. You are actually better off staying with the stock filter system. If you aren't pulling your filter minder on a full throttle take-off, you don't need an aftermarket filter or extra air. If anything, just swiss cheese your stock box. Hold your k&n air filter up to the light....if you see pinholes all over, that is the size dust particle could be getting into your engine. That is why I went with the AFE Proguard 7 filter after having a k&n drop-in.

| I had same problem with my truck.I took it in to the dealer for the check engine light and they told me that there was "oil on the sensor" from my K&N filter, so they replaced the sensor and installed a stock filter. No problems since that. Seems to me that they could of possibly just cleaned the oil off. I kept the removed K&N and it didn't look like it was over oiled or had exessive oil on it. |

| I talked to the dealer also about the problem and they said the same thing but since I performed the work myself I noted no oil on the MAF sensor but since I have changed it back to the stock filter it has been fine. The sales rep that sold me the truck told me after oiling his K&N he blows it out with air to try and get most of the loose oil out. I havent tried it because without the oil the filter isn't doing its job.

| AFE actually has a filter oil that is sensor safe and won't trip the sensor. I cleaned my AFE filter and reoiled it with K&N oil and within a couple hundred miles had a code. I was told by the dealer it was the oil in the filter. After researching I found out there is a difference in the oils used on different suppliers filters, I have since went back to The AFE oil and have not had any other problems with the sensor.

| i will disagree on the need for after market intake systems, i thought it made a huge difference in turbo lag. i have never had any problems with the MAF sensor on my 05 LLY. i do understand that the after market filters might not pick up everything that a stock filter will, but you have to take risk vs. performance into mind. think of all the other mods we all do to TORTURE our trucks... isn't that half the fun
