So I got my 5th wheel to day ready to go to the beach for the long weekend and everything went great. I brought it home and when I shut off the truck it sounded like metal grinding. I had my wife re-start it and I crawled under and we did it a few times and the grinding happened ever time. It appears that it is comming from either the trans or something near the trans. I did notice on the drivers side there is a smaller axle or what not (dont know much about the mechanical aspects of the vehicle) and where it attaches in the front there seams to be a leak. I am assuming this is part of the 4 wheel drive which I rarely use. I am calling the dealer tomorrow but I was hoping someone would know what was going on. Any info is greatly appreciated. Dont want this to ruin my weekend.

I'm not a mechanic, but I hope you find out what the problem is and hope it's under warranty or it cost little. In my bestest guesstimation I would say it could be the turbo. With and oil leak and a grinding noise sounds possible. But again, just a guess.
I know that when someone posts a question and I don't have a clue, I don't give a response. I think I will start just to let the person feel someone out here is watching.
Best of luck to you and your "BABY". Please let us know what the problem was.
Bump.... Hope you get it fixed without too much trouble, I can't help you on this one...
But I am sure that someone else here can, I am basically tr=ying to help you get it back to the top... Good Luck...

How many miles is on it? If it is the transfer case leaking i would say you are a victim of "Pump Rub", but its hard to say without knowing for sure where the noise and leak is comeing from.

The diff leak is normal ever since 88' when they when to that stylr the diff output seals have leaked. I would try putting t-case in neutral and starting then again with tranny. it will help eliviate components.

So Icrawled under it today and started looking around shaking what would shake tapping things that wouldn't and then where the straight pipe flange is located near the engine the weld had cracked and the tail pipe was vibrating . I pulled it off fixed the weld put it back on and the noise was gone. What a relief. Thanks for the help everyone.
