ran out of fuel ,I need instructions how to start engine.
I would remove your filter and fill it with diesel fuel and put it back on. You should have a silver primer button on top of the housing that pushes down. Keep priming till it gets hard to push. There might also be some bleeder screws there too you can crack to get any air from the system. Try to crank.
It is not recommended that you fill the filter with fuel, because it is un-filtered and any debris will go directly into the CP3 pump and injectors.
On the filter there is a tall primer button -- looks like a small juice can. Next to that is a plastic screw-- loosen the screw a couple turns- then pump the the primer (will take 50 ot more pumps) until diesel comes out. tighten the screw and pump the primer until hard.
I would repeat a couple times because there is so much air.
Crank the engine for a minute- pump the primer- crank the engine- (Do not crank the engine for long periods of time or the stsrter will overheat) Someone could pump the primer while cranking also.
Do not use starter fluid
Hope this helps.

04`Lil Dually, Thanks for time and information. There was lots of air in the system.I had to repeat the procedure many times.
Any time you change your filter, fill the new filter with fuel first before replacing. I have been working with diesels almost all my life. I know what i'm telling you about. With the quality of todays fuel, i would recommend changing the fuel filter each time you do an oil change. It sure be nice if the filters weren't so expensive but it's alot cheaper then changing pumps and injectors. Glad you got your truck running!

I always just fill mine with the little primmer pump. Just make sure you don't try to crank it before you prime it. I have never had a problem like this and it always starts and never dies after the filter change. The only time i had to crank for a while is after the FPRV shim.

After you bleed it a couple of times I find if you have someone pump the primer while you crank the starter it is a lot easier to start.
