Diesel fuel smell.

I'm getting a strong smell of diesel fuel while driving and my fuel mileage starts going down. I do not see any leaks. Is this what happens when a truck goes into regeneration mode? My truck is a 2008 Chevy 2500 Duramax diesel.

I believe they just issued a recall for that problem after refusing to acknowledge it for over a year. Check with the stealer or search here for recall notices.

YES! This is the DPF getting fuel dumped in before and after the filter to burn off soot build up.

Time to get a DPF delete exhaust system and programmer. It will suck down 1 or more gallons depending on buildup and/or if its running when in town or on highway.

Been complaining about this for over a year. 2007.5 LMM. Worse when the pavement is hot and helps the smell to rise up. Looking for the recall now

I currently have only 1900 miles on my new 2008 GMC truck and the cab fills with exhaust while sitting at idle, the ac is on fresh but when it goes to recirculate it won't smell anymore. The dealer states they are having problems with the regeneration mode and that the smell won't hurt you! Well, have you ever seen the results of diesel exhaust to the human body, cancer!! This has to be fixed, this could turn into a lawsuit if they can't fix the problem.
