I was thinking of a VW Jetta TDI for a newer family car, I was thinking 2001-2004, Anybody have any good or bad experiences with them, all I heard was there good, but when they need service work, take out a small loan$$$. Thanks.
G/F's dad has had 3 I think? All wagon bodys.. One of them has 300K on it and the other he still has has like 150. I dont think he has every touched them mod wise but they run forever. My friend had one back in high school.. Besides it freezing on cold days outside of school just like my 01 F-250 7.3L did. We use to share a generator for an hour in the parking lot haha.
Overall I don't think thats a bad idea at all. They get like close to 40 MPG's or 30 I think he said. I would love to have one as a driver. DO IT!
put a stack on it too

My mom has an 05. Gets very good mileage, she filled it up like first week in September and just filled it back up this week, all in town driving. Not really any mechanical problems, but there have been several aesthetic problems in the interior, and a few small electrical problems with some gauges. Still does pretty good though.

But to answer your question, we have a 01 with 130,000 on it and it runs great! 40 mpg on the highway and very reliable. Never had any big problems just some normal stuff for a 100,000 + car. Only thing is that it seems like everything maintenance wise is $500.00 no matter what it is it is always $500.00
