i'm assuming this is a lift pump you are talking about. and the dmax just has the injection pump no lift pump?? is something like this a bolt on mod or does it take a little bit of custom wiring and mounting?

this item description says it's a good oem replacement?

You really do not need a lift pump unless you pplan on running a big race tune. For mileage a good tune will net you up to 22mpg.I personally get as good as 21 if I run a constant speed. A site vendor Idahorob got as much a 23.5 on his lbz running through the mountains in Idaho. With Efi live the options for tuning are endless.Boost and Egt are the main parameters you want to monitor if you want a third I would do another tranny temp gauge. I do not like the stock one(bad location and not real specific)

One more question regarding winter. Here in Central Illinois it can get pretty cold. Temperatures can be in the 0's for a solid month. Outside of putting anti-gel in the diesel. Anybody have trouble starting the truck without plugging it in? like say i go to work and leave it outside for 8 hours. would it be good or what?
