I just bought a 04.5 lly gmc, I have never owned a diesel truck before, I see many choices for exhaust and tuner applications. I am looking for towing, mileage and midrange performance. could someone point me in the right direction on some top quality performance parts. thanks
I would say for good mpg, performance, and great towing capabilities you might want to look into the banks line of tuners and other performance parts.
ill have to dissagree....
banks makes OK products... but they are way overpriced.... and def not the best
if you want better performance than banks stuff right out of the box go with a PPE tuner, AFE or S&B intake and MBRP exhaust....
Banks is like Sony.... everyone wants it because the brand but you can get the same if not better quality with a diff brand that doesn't cost as much....
I have Banks, and I love it, yeah they cost more, but like many have said in the past, you get what you pay for, or you pay for the amount of performance/ durability/ dependability you want...
If you want a intake try and find a factory Lbz duramax intake. As for tuners go with a ppe or ats these are the best for the d-max. Exhaust you have a lot to choose from, there are vendors on this site that will hook you up with a nice 4inch stainless system.I believe I am right when I say the ppe and ats will shut your egr off for you, banks does not do that.

Ya, I do agree banks is priced high, but for a guy not looking to set up his own tunes, and have safe reliable power, my opinion is banks. Even though i am going to EFILive soon. Sorry Gale.

I would do a 4" exhaust and consider aluminized if you dont live where salt to heavy or arent keeping the truck over 4-5 years. And consider a PPE,ATS,Quadzilla, or Diablosport tuner. All great tuner.
Like everyone has said. PPE, MBRP and a S&B or AFE intake..
You will be like WOW is this the same truck..
With the items listed above, if you find the right people you can pay under $1000 for it all..

if you go with abnks you pay too much for poor quality product. i had it hated it go with ppe standard for plug and play with afe intake. or efi live if you got the time and willing to learn great thongs you cand do with that product. i would go with 4 inch turbo back. 5 inch is cool got it in mine but to big can cause some vibration if they didnt get the hangers right on but stay away from banks not worth the money at all

Thanks for all the info, Have any of you heard of volant air intakes? from what I've read there filter is good for a 100000 miles and the cleaning is one less step no oil film after you clean the filter.
