How do you get a 2003 Duramax diesel to restart after it has run out of fuel?

You'll need to pump the primer under the hood. It's on top of the fuel filter housing (passenger side of the motor, towards the back), and is a cylindrical metal button. There is a black bleeder screw next to it, loosen the screw and pump the primer until fuel comes out of the screw. Then close the bleeder screw (careful, it's plastic) and pump until the primer gets firm. Then try starting it. You might have to do this a couple times to get all the air out of the lines. And be prepared to do a lot of pumping on that primer button!
