Okay well I think I am getting closer to knowing what I want to put in for the engine oil. I currently am not running synth...but feel maybe it wouldn't be so bad at 200,000km to change over to synth. I am an Amsoil preferred customer and ordered a pile of stuff from them already..just not my oil. Not sure about some of the peoples recommendations out there as of yet. The local Canadian tire sells Rotella T, Mobil 1, and Castrol Syntec. Not sure if these are okay and what gardes to use. I do have accessibility to 0W40 Esso XD-3 Synthetic but am not sur if it is a synthetic blend or full synthetic. How are we suppose to know if they are full or blended unless they say on the bottle? Any others use the Esso? I want to do this ASAP so if there is anyone out there that can make my mind up for me that would be great.

I was told that by a guy at work. He was told that by the guy who changes his oil at jiffy lube.

Sounded like BS to me and now I know for sure. Thanks

Kody,

There isn't any reason that would stop you, but why would you switch back to conventional if you were running AMSOIL? Only reason I can think of is your broke down somewhere and can't get AMSOIL where you are at.

My 2 cents anyway.

How come nobody here runs 0w40 all year round? All my vehicles get esso xd3 0w40, its better cold flow than any other oil and protects the same as 15w40 when hot. When I used to work in lloydminster one company ran that stuff year round in every piece of heavy equipment they owned, crawlers, scapers, track hoes, dump trucks, half tons, and so on.

not being able to switch oil weights is probably one of the dumbest claims i've heard in my history of mechanics.

I have to agree with McClintock its pretty out there to say you can't switch. 40 weight oil is 40 weight oil when its hot. Who ever said that is crazy.
