Just to clarify one thing, our CJ-4 5w-40 (DEO) Diesel Oil CAN be run in higher temp climates. But the main purpose for it is for better cold flow characteristics in the colder climates. but like stated already, they are the same when up to normal operating temp.

As for the op's original question, I think that the biggest difference between conventional and synthetic oil is the wear protection and the fact that synthetic oils do not break down as easily as conventional oils. You see, as conventional oils break down the larger molecules of the oil get "Stuck" to the sides of the oil flow galleys in the engines and throughout the oiling system. As they get "Stuck" they overheat and get burn against whatever part of the engien they are touching. As they do this they form the dreaded sludge that you see when you open the engines up. Now, because the sludge is there in the first place, the oil cannot flow throughout the engine as well and this all but eliminates the oil's ability to dissipate the engine heat as well as it should. No matter how often you change your conventional oil, that sludge build up stays behind when you drain the oil, and continues to build up over time. This slowly reduces the efficiency of the engine overall. but it also increases the particle load of the oil almost immediately upon installing new oil so that it is broken down even faster than in a fresh engine.

AMSOIL Synthetic oils have built in heavy duty detergents and dispersant additives and high TBN (10.4) formulation that effectively neutralizes acids and controls soot thickening from the EGR and blow-by to protect against corrosion, cylinder bore polishing, and varnish or sludge deposits better than any conventional oil on the market. Period.

The truth? No conventional oil, no matter how often you change it, will give you the same high quality results and efficiency as AMSOIL, for the long haul beyond the normal 500K life expectancy of these trucks. If they were built to last for 500K miles with conventional oils, then they can go a lot farther with AMSOIL!!!

I have no doubt. As do every other customer of AMSOIL that has ever ran their products for any length of time.
