Mac,

Unfortunately, I have not seen the study you are referring to. You are correct about foreign particles when you use some of the other filters on the market today. For AMSOIL, they offer the EA line of filters. They are larger than normal filters, with a larger carrying capacity. They also are made with a synthetic nanofiber that traps 98.7% of contaminants down to 15 microns and are guaranteed for up to 25k miles or 1 yr. The next step to keeping particles out of your oil is a bypass system. With the AMSOIL dual bypass, you are trapping over 98.7% of contaminants down to 2 microns and up to 40% of soot in your oil.

You are correct in that regular maintenance is important and I would not recommend never changing your oil without a bypass system, oil analysis and filter changes.

Have a great weekend.

Mobile 1 thru re-refined was used and after 100,000 miles the test vehicles were dismantled and the wear was negligible. The main summary point was it's not the oil so much as the regular maintenance that will protect the internal components best. Like I say many will disagree and we all take care of our rigs like we think we know best. I say good luck to all.
I dissagree with that statement.. oil mostly breaks down because of oxidisation and nitration..that all relates to heat and loading and unloading the engine..oil is very specific to the type of engine and the kinds of stress that the engine is under.. That is why they make different grades ash content and put in different additives in oil..Most of the dirt and contaminants in oil is generated from the engine firing and temperature changes in the oil..So in saying that i think you should be buying oil from people who can take in consideration where you live (temperature) and what type of driving you do..

just my opinion...

Are, we are all correct. You definitely need to consider the climate where you are at or damage can happen very rapidly with the incorrect viscosity, cold lube higher pressures etc. I have been fortunate to be in and out of the motor industry for the last 20 years so was privy to loads of third party information from research institutes etc without the bias of manufacturers. An you mention there is loads of acidic compounds, gums and other nasty deposits as a result of actually running the engine even with the best filtration system and hence my belief of regular maintenance... infact my oil changes have been at 1000 miles, 2500 miles and EVERY 2500 after that.. I saw a comment somewhere else on this forum that I also subscribe to... little extra maintenance is a small price to pay in the long term... especially with the price of these diesels!

I wish I could find that study again actually, it was about 20 pages long and detailed every engine and the oil used and measurements of wear and tear on every part. Extremely comprehensive.
